FIELD: metal working. SUBSTANCE: spur gear wheels with curvilinear teeth are machined with the aid of cutter head with cutting members of symmetrical profile equidistant to profile of tooth space being machined. Gear wheel and head are rotated round their axes the head being moved tangentially in straightforward and reverse directions. Tool head has body with radial recesses accommodating cutting members adopted to be moved along recess and to be fixed at rear radius. Convex and concave surfaces are machined separately. Operational step over, indexing by one tooth is carried out and tool head is moved tangentially in reverse direction. EFFECT: improved accuracy of gear wheel machining. 2 cl, 6 dwg
