FIELD: glass production. SUBSTANCE: method involves continuous pumping out and maintaining reduced pressure as compared to atmospheric pressure in tubular portion of glass body to cause spontaneous shrinkage; feeding hollow body in horizontal plane to heating zone while maintaining continuous rotation of body at predetermined speed of rotation; reducing viscosity of body in such a way that hollow body is spontaneously shrunk in spontaneous shrinkage zone to acquire shape of rod due to pressure difference between reduced pressure and outer pressure acting upon body; continuously withdrawing rod at predetermined speed of rotation from spontaneous shrinkage zone. Homogeneous rod-like bodies may be produced by means of above-mentioned method for one working operation provided that choice of such parameters as outer and inner sizes of hollow body, viscosity of glass material in spontaneous shrinkage zone, pressure difference between reduced pressure and outer pressure, rod withdrawal speed and hollow body feeding speed as well as speed of rotation of hollow body and rod, allows exhaust tube with lesser cross-section as compared to rod cross-section to be formed along axis of hollow body during withdrawal of rod from spontaneous shrinkage zone, with exhaust tube being formed in the direction opposed to that of rod withdrawal. EFFECT: high quality and homogeneity of rod. 5 cl, 1 dwg
