APPARATUS FOR CONTINUOUS CASTING Russian patent published in 1994 - IPC

FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: apparatus has a crystallizer in the form of endless flexible belt with filters and vacuum valves, a drive of the crystallizer, a bunker to feed sand on the crystallizer, a roll of synthetic film, a roll with patterns to form cavities in sand and to cover sand surface with the film, a vacuum system. Apparatus has an additional roll for sand forming and film covering. The roll with patterns is movable and has mechanism of movement. The additional roll may be mounted stationary in front of the roll with patterns. The latter is capable to be vertically moved by a lift. It is possible to make both rolls movable to exercise alternate formation. In the case mechanism of movement is made as a driven turning frame, on which shafts of the rolls are fixed. Use of two movable rolls with patterns in case of their alternate use for formation makes it possible to produce two types of profile alternatively. Use of one of the rolls without pattern makes it possible to form only flat style on surface of crystallizer facing at the time, that the second roll with ring shaped pattern is forming "continuous" cavity, that during the roll lifting will be cut by formation of a transverse partition with flat style , on which the auxiliary roll without a pattern covers the film. Design of the apparatus with horizontal location of the crystallizer makes it possible to form in its sand facing and to cast thick walled ingots (profiles), separated by transverse partitions, that significantly expands its manufacturing capabilities and does not require profile cutting for uniform length pieces.
