FIELD: medical engineering. SUBSTANCE: dental borer incorporates shank 1, connecting neck 2 and head 3 made in the form of revolving body having cutting member 4 which is rigidly secured in head body and protrudes from external surface of head by 0.01 to 0.5 mm to form fore angle of -25 to +45 deg. Head has groove inclined at angle of -45 to +45 deg relative to borer axis. Angle of opening of groove in cross-section perpendicular to groove axis ranges from 10 to 150 deg and groove cross-sectional area is equal to 0.05 to 0.7 of head cross-sectional area. Disclosed dental borer is capable of working at high rotational speed of at least 10,000 rpm. Tool head pressed against tooth cuts away dental tissue in portions, that is, amount of tissue not exceeding height of cutting member protrusion from head external surface per single revolution. Head serving as support prevents cutting member from penetrating to undesired great depth in dental tissue. Groove is deep and spacious enough to accommodate cuttings and discontinue cutting process because of large amount of cuttings. EFFECT: more sophisticated design. 12 cl, 4 dwg
