FIELD: chemical industry. SUBSTANCE: benzene is subjected to alkylation with alpha-olefins of the C8-C10 fraction at elevated temperature in the presence of an aluminium chloride-based catalytic complex. The process is carried out, the benzene-to-alpha olefin ratio being 0.65-0.80:1 and the aluminium chloride to alpha-olefin ratio being 0.0055-0.0110:1. EFFECT: improved properties of the substrate. 1 tbl
