FIELD: chemistry.

SUBSTANCE: invention relates to a method of producing synthetic base oils, which includes oxidative and reductive activation of a Cr/SiO2 catalyst, cooling to oligomerisation temperature, oligomerising C6-C10 alpha-olefins to obtain an oligomerisation product, fractionating the reaction products to remove the unreacted monomer and a light secondary dimer fraction, hydrogenating and subsequently fractionating the oligomerisation product to separate the light oil fraction, wherein oxidative activation of the catalyst is carried out in steps: first at 500-540°C for 3-5 hours in an air current with volume rate of feeding air of 167 h-1, followed by cooling the catalyst in a dry air current to 350°C, then cooling the catalyst in a dry nitrogen current to 300-340°C, and reductive activation of the catalyst is carried out with carbon monoxide at 300-340°C for 2-3 h, followed by blowing with nitrogen and performing oligomerisation at pressure of 0.1-1.5 MPa, wherein during oligomerisation, the monomer feed rate is set at 18-36 ml/h.

EFFECT: method increases conversion of initial alpha-olefins, output of synthetic oil, enables to obtain high-viscosity, low-setting synthetic base oils, improves technological effectiveness of the process, which provides stable catalyst performance for not less than 4000 h with cycle length of not less than 70 h.
