FIELD: agriculture, land reclamation, hydrology. SUBSTANCE: method involves modelling the process of erosion and determining the energy spent for destroying the soil sample. Stability is assessed by the erosion stability potential which is equal to energy consumption required for destroying a mass unit of sample. The energy consumption for destroying the soil is determined by comparing the kinetic energy of liquid flows while conducting tests with the soil sample and without it. The device comprises an inclined trough, feeder, damper, soil sample chamber disposed in working portion of trough, water flow rate regulator and devices for registering washed-off soil. Disposed in head and discharge portions of trough along its longitudinal axis are micrometers with micrometric screws secured to trough wall. Measuring needle is secured by lockscrew on end of micrometric screw along micrometer center. Damper installed in head portion of trough has the form of a two-chamber container with perforated bottom in discharge portion and flow damper in inlet portion. Flow damper is disposed under constant flow supply system pipe. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 9 cl, 3 dwg, 1 tbl
