FIELD: ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: steel modification and addition of trace metals to alloy are exercised together with inoculation after metal was cast in ingot mold. Inoculation is carried out, using wastes of abrasive scrubbing heat-resistant steel in amounts of 0.9 - 1.1 kg per tone of steel and modification - using calcium-silicon in amounts of 0.4 - 0.8 kg per tone of steel. Apparatus has ingot mold, located in it pole with capsule, fixed on end of pole. Capsule has additional outside body. Walls of capsule bodies are made of fusible material. Inner volume of capsule is filled with heat-resistant steel abrasive treatment wastes and space between walls of inner and outer bodies - with powder-shaped calcium-silicon. EFFECT: method and apparatus are used in ferrous metallurgy for casting large high quality ingots in molds. 2 cl, 1 dwg
