FIELD: manufacturing of large- sized products from high-strength difficult-to-weld steels in transport and power engineering, ship-building, heat-power engineering, defence equipment, in particular, turbine rotors, atomic reactor bodies. SUBSTANCE: method involves depositing a layer of low-alloy steel by welding onto workpieces preliminarily subjected to thermal treatment; providing subsequent thermal treatment of workpieces for a predetermined class of strength; subjecting edges to machining, with arrangement of new lines of fusion being taken into account during subsequent welding in preliminarily welded-on layer; welding workpieces and providing tempering of welded connection. EFFECT: high quality of welding and enhanced reliability in operation. 2 cl, 4 tbl
