FIELD: arc welding of high-carbon steels. SUBSTANCE: just before welding, prepared edges are faced with ductile low-carbon metal. Facing layer is built up in direction from edge upper part to root one with 20-60% overlapping of the preceding bead by the next one. Limiting of made metal to 30% in faced metal practically fully prevents formation of cold cracks in weld zone and pores in deposited metal. EFFECT: higher operating reliability of welded structures from high-carbon steel, in particular, with carbon content of 0.55-0.9% due to attaining of quality joints in welding without preliminarily heating. 1 dwg, 1 tbl
