FIELD: manufacture of plastic materials. SUBSTANCE: accelerator of polymerization reaction of ethylene or copolymerization of ethylene with alfa-olefins includes the following components, mole parts: solid titanium-magnesium component (on Ti basis) 1 and trialkylaluminum 6-20. Solid component is prepared by reacting the thermally activated silica with solution containing tetraalkoxytitanium and magnesium dichloride in a liquid saturated hydrocarbon at atomic Ti/Mg ratio of 2:1 to 5:1 followed by precipitation of the solid residue. Thereafter, the precipitated residue is treated by addition of solution of titanium dichloride in an ester at atomic Ti/Mg ratio of 1.25 to 1.92 in the reaction solution to give the precipitated residue that is then treated with alkylaluminum chloride at 25-90 C for 0.25- 2.0 hours at atomic Ti/AL ratio of 0.15:1 to 0.9:1. Ethylene polymers or its copolymers are prepared by polymerization of ethylene or copolymerization of ethylene with alfa-olefins in suspension or gas phase in the presence of hydrogen at total pressure of 10-20 bars and partial H₂-ethylene pressure ratio of from 0.47:1 to 1.3:1 using the obtained accelerator.
