FIELD: chemical engineering. SUBSTANCE: the product: di-n-propylamine is prepared by hydrogenation of acrylic acid nitrile in a gas vapor phase to form propionitrile in the first stage in the presence of a catalyst comprising 2.0-2.5% palladium, 2.0-2.5% bismuth, 1.0-1.5% potassium and silica gel, the balance at a nitrile feed rate of 0,4-0,6 ч-1 at 1.0-2.0 MPa and by hydrogenation of propionitrile to form di-n-propylamine at the second stage at a propionitrile to hydrogen molar ratio of 1:(6-12) per catalyst comprising 50-56% nickel based on diatomaceous earth or chromium oxide followed by isolation of the desired product by rectification. EFFECT: simplified technology, greater efficiency and increased yield of the desired product. 10 tbl
