FIELD: medicine, in particular, ophthalmology. SUBSTANCE: this method prescribes carrying out ultrasonic study of vitreous body and determining topography of posterior hyaloid membrane. If posterior hyaloid membrane is dislocated relative to retina by at most one third of axial length of vitreal cavity, posterior vitrectomy is indicated. In case posterior hyaloid membrane is set off from retina by one third to two thirds of axial length of vitreal cavity, central or posterior vitrectomy is indicated. If displacement exceeds two thirds, subtotal vitrectomy is indicated. EFFECT: higher accuracy.
