FIELD: environmental protection. SUBSTANCE: unit comprises housing which incorporates inlet and outlet connections together with layers of heat-absorbing inert and catalytically active material. The layers are divided in two equal sections by a vertical baffle too low to reach the top of the housing. The lower section has a switch embedded under stationary zones holding inactive agent and catalyst. The switch has the form of two half-round channels the one being affixed to the inlet connection and the other to the connection for discharging the purified gas. The channels have two holes each for connecting to every reactor section. The holes are hermetically closed by four operatively inter- connected disk valves and have also hermetic valves positioned in them for effecting subsequent closing. The valves are operatively interconnected through control means arranged so as to receive signals from temperature gages located at the rims of the catalyst layer.
