FIELD: engine engineering. SUBSTANCE: fuel supply to cylinder is cut-off, intake manifold is sealed, engine is operated from external source, definite speed and heat regime is maintained, source of compressed air is connected to the intake manifold through a control member. Comparing index is measured and one compares it with a reference one which have been obtained for a reference engine at the same speed and heat regimes. The intake manifold is sealed additionally, gas pressure in the intake manifold is measured, a given pressure is maintained in the intake manifold by changing rate of flow from the compressed gas source. The pressure corresponds to the pressure of the reference engine. The rate of flow from the compressed gas source is used as the comparing index. EFFECT: simplified method. 3 cl, 1 dwg
