FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: method includes vacuum hardening of point tool with vertical working part upward in hot vessel, heating at rate of 20-40 C/min and holding for 25-30 min; transfer of tool for hardening and tempering through air and tempering in same furnace in vertical position with preset cooling rate in media of different composition in tempering. Strength characteristics are increased by 1.4-1.6 times and labor input and power intensity are reduced by 2-4 times. EFFECT: higher hardness, strength and reduced labor input of treatment. 10 cl, 1 tbl
