FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: parallel beam of monochromatic light is directed normally through diaphragm on to first face of sample, first image of diaphragm is formed in passing light, second image is formed by double reflection of rays inside sample, third image is formed with passing of light through air external to sample. Distances from first image of diaphragm to third one and from second image of diaphragm to third one are measured and refractive index is found from relationship given in description of invention. EFFECT: improved authenticity of determination of refractive index. 2 dwg
