FIELD: mechanical engineering. SUBSTANCE: platform with body secured on it is set in reversible antisymmetric full-revolution rotary motion around axis under conditions of friction; this motion includes braking revolution at any angular position and accelerating revolution in opposite direction; proposed method includes measurement of active torque and angular velocity and moment of inertia is found analytically from many magnitudes. After determination of six moments of inertia, tensor of inertia and center of mass are determined. Device proposed for realization of this method includes platform mounted in bearing support and provided with grip for securing the body on it at six definite angular positions, controllable electric motor, platform, angle-of-turn and angular velocity sensor and rotation selector made in form of bevel gear train and friction electromagnetic clutches.
