FIELD: ferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: polyhedral charge blank comprises a rectangular lower base, a spherical upper base and sides radially conjugated with one another and with the bases. The upper base has the form of a globular segment. The relation of the lower base smaller side to its larger side, to the conjugation radii of their sides, the base radius, the radius of the sphere of the globular segment and the height of the polyhedron is equal, respectively, to 1:(1.0-1.4):(0.2-0.4):(0,21-0.4):(0.25-0.45): : (0.4-0.7). The mold for casting of charge blank comprises casing with shoulder overlapping the gap between adjacent molds, transverse partitions which divide the mold space into cells with a spherical bottom, and longitudinal partitions with slots. The bottom of each cell formed by the partitions having a trapezoidal cross section with the bases growing wider towards the bottom has the form of a globular segment. The radius of the bottom sphere relates to the cell height as 1:(12.1-2.8) while the total useful area of the cells and the casing cross section at the upper level of partitions, as (0.6-0.8):1. Slots are provided in the transverse partitions and in the mold shoulder opposite the outer rows of cells. The metal casting method involves delivery of metal into the mold cells through a chute. Liquid metal is fed into the central row of cells from where the other cells are filled through slots in partitions. Surplus metal is flows into the next mold from the outer cells. The invention ensures smaller dimensions of blast furnace iron pigs (3.5-7 kg), lower amount of labor required for charge preparation, more uniform distribution of metal charge both in the steel-melting plant and during charge transportation; accelerated melting process since small pigs are heated faster; and more uniform pigs throughout their section.
