FIELD: testing equipment. SUBSTANCE: tank is set in a testing chamber. The testing chamber is evacuated and the tank is cooled by filling with liquid coolant up to overlapping the site of leakage. The liquid coolant is displaced from the tank by filling it with testing gas up to the opening of the site of leakage. Changing in concentration of testing gas inside the tank as a function of a distance from the site of leakage is measured. Gas is fed from the tank to the testing chamber. Concentration of testing gas inside the testing chamber is changed by the value of changing concentration of the testing gas in the testing chamber as a function of from the site of leakage by controlling the gas flow. The gas flow from the tank to the testing chamber is cut-off and flow rate of testing gas is measured. Tightness can be judged by the measured flow rate. The device has testing chamber for arranging a tank to be tested, leak detector, and valve mounted on the testing chamber, system for filling with coolant and testing gas connected with the tank to be tested, pipe line for connection of the tank with the testing chamber through the valve, gas flow controller and measuring reservoir provided with pressure gauge connected in the pipe line in series, and stopwatch.
