FIELD: rolling of steel ingots. SUBSTANCE: surface layer of ingot is subjected to additional deformation. Globular projections of 0.013-0.015D radius, 0.025-0.035 D high are formed on profiled surface of mill rolls. Said projections are spaced at a certain distance from one another along rolling axis within the limits of 0.04-0.065D and perpendicularly from 0.052 to 0.065D where D - roll diameter. In the course of rolling the projections are forced into the surface layer of ingot and cause transverse and longitudinal shearing of the surrounding portions of metal. The transverse shears break the longitudinal incontinuities. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 3 dwg
