FIELD: analysis of materials. SUBSTANCE: sample of material is dried, saturated with sorbent, exposed to light radiation through optical element at angle exceeding angle of total internal reflection. Porosity of material is determined in process of saturation of sample by change of intensity of radiation reflected from sample. Layer of auxiliary material capable of molecular-capillary inhibition higher than that of investigated material and having thickness not less than depth of penetration of light radiation into it is placed between optical element and sample of material.
