FIELD: production of catalysts. SUBSTANCE: method involves heating a carrier - aluminium oxide - in the known range of temperatures but at specified moisture content used in air heating (from 0.5 to 5.0 g/cu m). The carrier is produced by mixing cold and hot modifications of aluminium hydroxide in a mass ratio of 1:2 or some other prevalence of the hot modification. Aluminium-nickel- molybdenum and aluminium-cobalt-molybdenum catalysts produced on such a carrier permit obtaining hydrogenizates with a residual sulfur content of 25030 mg/kg from a fraction of diesel fuel at 200-300 C with sulfur amount of 5000 mg/kg. The desulfurization degree exceeds 99%. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 1 tbl
