FIELD: nonferrous metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: length of current leads in anode heat intensive zone is reduced and distance between end faces of opposite bars equals 0.1-0.25 of charge width. Bottom of carbon block not occupied by bar is filled to leave gap between end faces of cathode bars and rammed bottom lining. Value of gap is not less than value of absolute linear thermal expansion of bar. Carbon block bottom is filled simultaneously with ramming of central interblock seam.
