FIELD: medical engineering. SUBSTANCE: essence of this method resides in directing laser-generated pulses into optical fiber and then moving this optical fiber towards location of calculus via endoscope. Optical fiber outlet portion carries coaxially attached metallic rod capable of executing reciprocating motion. Laser pulse brings about optical break-down of metallic rod face. Resultant plasma abruptly expands and transmits mechanical pulse to rod which starts moving in direction of propagation of rays. Instrumental end of rod comes in mechanical crushing contact with calculus and breaks it apart. Outlet end portion of optical fiber and rod are immersed in liquid surrounding calculus and this diminishes optical break-down threshold. When plasma ceases to expand, rod returns to its original position. EFFECT: more sophisticated technique. 2 dwg
