SUBSTANCE: the process comprises chlorination (by adding droplets) with a chlorinating agent (CHA) (inorganic acid chloride) of a mixtture of metha-benzoic acid (m-CBA) and a neutral organic solvent such as hydrogen sulfide (HS) or halogenated organic solvent (HOS) on heating in the presence of a dimethylformamide (DMFA) catalyst at a M- CBA to CHA to HOS or HS to DMFA ratio of (0.5-2):(0.5- 2):(0.02-0.15).
