FIELD: preparation of metal phthalocyanines (MePe) wherein Me is a simple or complex four-coordination cation, Pc is a substituted or unsubstituted phthalocyanine ligand. SUBSTANCE: MePc is obtained by reacting phthalic acid anhydride with carbamide, a metal or a compound thereof in the presence of a catalyst. The reaction is carried out by heating by means of microwave radiation of solid reagents to a synthesis temperature (usually 180-300 C), maintaining the reactants at the synthesis temperature followed by cooling and purification of the molten reaction mixture. In another embodiment said reagents are continuously fed to the melting zone to form a melt, the melt flow is made to move to the microwave radiation zone and the melt flow is subsequently heated by microwave radiation, the heating operation being carried out within the MePc synthesis temperature of 170-240 C for 0.5 to 30 minutes. The flow of the reactants is made to move to the maturing zone and said flow is maintained in a current of an inert gas, e.g. nitrogen, at the synthesis temperature for 0.5 to 2.5 hours, followed by cooling and purification of the molten reaction mixture. The plant for carrying the process into effect to continuously obtain metal phthalocyanines comprises a feeder equipped with a loading device and a batch meter, a melting apparatus connected with the feeder, a reactor connected with the latter equipped with a microwave radiator, a maturing tank connected with the reactor equipped with a system for creating an inert gas current, a system for purifying and trapping the off-gases, a cooling device located along the path of the flow of reactants behind the reactor.
