FIELD: production of catalysts. SUBSTANCE: method involves conducting thermal degradation of mixed hydroxocarbonate of copper-zinc-chromium and/or aluminum at 250-450 C with hydrotalcite-pyroaurite or hydrozincite-aurihalcide-type structure. Catalyst contains, by weight: Cu 0.30-0.33; Zn 0.06-0.08; Me (+3) 0.59-0.64On or Cu ).30-0.55; Zn 0.30- 0.62; Me (3+) 0.08-0.15, On, where Me Al (+3) Cr(+3) or Al (+3), or Cr (+3), with n in stoichiometric ratio. EFFECT: increased efficiency and improved quality of catalyst. 2 tbl
