FIELD: disinfection and cleaning of potable water. SUBSTANCE: apparatus has two tubes positioned one within the other and having different heights. Upper end of outer tube is provided with inner conical surface and lower end of inner tube is provided with outer conical surface. Conical surfaces are joined to form hermetically sealed connection in the process of axial displacement of inner tube. A portion of outer tube not overlapped by inner tube and positioned downward of water flow has a succession of layers of fibrous cation-exchange materials, fibrous anion-exchange material and carbonaceous sorbing material, and inner tube has a succession of layers of carbonaceous sorbing material, iod-containing highly basic anion exchange resin, fibrous cation-exchange material, fibrous anion exchange material, mixture of carbonaceous sorbing and silver-containing sorbing materials.
