FIELD: casting of metals. SUBSTANCE: metal is fed into crystallizer, ingot of rectangular section is drawn out of crystallizer with varying speed, working walls of crystallizer are cooled with running water, slag mixture is fed on meniscus of metal in crystallizer, the metal surface is cooled under crystallizer with a cooler dispersed by injectors and temperature of ingot surface is measured. In the process of continuous casting temperature is measured at four angles on joining edges of ingot. The results of measurements received at each angle are compared in pairs. In case the difference in temperature values on joining edges at least in one of the angles increases by 10-60 per cent of the working value discharge of cooler in the secondary cooling zone increases by 10-40 per cent of the working value.
