FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: metal is fed to the mould, an ingot is extracted from it with variable velocity, the slag mixture is fed to the metal meniscus in the mould, the mould is cooled with running water, the ingot is held up and guided with the aid of rollers, the ingot surface is cooled with a cooling agent sprayed by sprayers, the temperature of the ingot surface is measured. In the process of the continuous casting on the local area of the temperature measurement of the ingot surface the relationship of the area value of the spaces covered with the scaling layer to the area of the spaces without the indicated layer is determined. On the basis of it the truth value of the temperature of the ingot surface is determined. In case this temperature deviates from the operating value in the range of ± 10-30%, the speed of the ingot extraction is correspondingly changed in the range of ± 5-30% of the operating value in the reverse proportional dependence on the magnitude of the deviation of the ingot temperature value from the operating one.
