FIELD: by-product coke industry. SUBSTANCE: coke box is provided with means for fastening and sealing of box relative to coke oven means, for circulation of gas located inside receiving chamber for amplifying transmission of heat from coke to inner surfaces of panels of receiving chamber and means for supply of external cooling medium to other surfaces of receiving chamber panels. Box also has reflecting partitions installed inside receiving chamber for direction of flow of recirculating gas over the entire surface of coke. Means for sealing the box relative to coke oven are located over circumference of door aperture of receiving chamber and made in form of springs connected with chamber panels. At least a part of panels of receiving chamber has horizontal knurling. Besides, box has means for regulation of pressure differential inside it. Each means for pressure differential regulation has, at least, one ventilation passage to receiving chamber for throwing off excessive pressure in box and for compensation of subatmospheric pressure. Door is made in form of hollow door plate with inlet for water and inner chamber. Method of dry quenching of coke unloaded from coke oven with horizontal discharge includes fastening and sealing of coke box relative to coke oven, circulation of caught gases inside coke box after closing the open end, and cooling of outer panels of receiving chamber with external cooling medium. Additional removal of coke from coke box with the aid of mechanical vibration of one or more surfaces of coke box. Levelling of open end of coke includes measuring of location of relative point having known space relation to discharging end of coke oven and correction of position of open end of coke box in response to indication of location of relative point to ensure engagement of open end of coke box with discharging end of coke oven. EFFECT: higher efficiency. 11 cl, 29 dwg
