FIELD: laser treatment of materials. SUBSTANCE: method involves treating by defocussed laser beam, with focus extending in plane opposed to groove side surface; directing one generatrix of focussed radiation to groove side surface edge perpendicular with respect to its plane, with laser beam parameters- groove size ratio being within the range of H/B = tgβ;, where β is complete angle of beam diverging behind focal beam plane; H is spline groove depth; B is spline groove width. Method allows laser beam action zone depth to be increased by 22-44% EFFECT: increased efficiency and improved quality of laser treatment. 4 dwg, 1 tbl
