FIELD: multipurpose linear electric drives. SUBSTANCE: linear electric drive is controlled by varying conductance within tooth pitch of control layer and tooth pitch of electric drive that has inductor 1 carrying multiphase winding 2 and teeth 3, and secondary member 4. Control layer is arranged in insulating shell between inductor and secondary member 4 filled with magnetic liquid. Its conductance is controlled by auxiliary winding. At one of critical signal values, magnetic liquid is uniformly distributed through thickness of shell 6 and actually entire magnetic flux is shorted out by it. In this case, electric drive does not develop tractive force. At other critical signal value, volume concentration of magnetic liquid is at its maximum in the region of inductor teeth 3 and at its minimum above slots.
