FIELD: conversion of electric energy into translational movement. SUBSTANCE: linear electric drive has inductor 1, secondary element 3, layer of magnetic liquid 4 inbetween contained in shell 5, and control winding 6 placed beyond magnetic liquid layer and provided with additional core 7 with toothed pole shoes 8 embracing magnetic liquid layer at its longitudinal ends; axes of teeth of pole shoes 8 coincide with longitudinal axes of teeth of inductor 1. When electric drive is running, effective portion of magnetic flux of inductor 1 interacts with secondary element 3 to built up tractive force. Other portion of flux is shorted out by magnetic liquid 4 in shell 5 and does not take part in creating tractive force. Amount of effective flux can be varied to control tractive force by varying volume concentration of magnetic liquid 4 near shoes effected by directly actuating it with magnetic field of control winding 6 placed beyond magnetic liquid layer 4. EFFECT: facilitated control of tractive force. 6 dwg
