FIELD: microbiology. SUBSTANCE: using method of directional selection and selective media containing chloroacetamide and acetonitrile new producer of nitrile hydratase is obtained. Strain is able to hydrate both aliphatic and aromatic nitriles to the corresponding amides, for example: acrylonitrile to acrylamide (up to 42% in solution) and 3-cyanopyridine to nicotine amide (10-40% solutions). New strain Rhodococcus rhodochrous M33 grows on the simple synthetic media at the absence of inductors. Carbon source is glucose or acetate, nitrogen source are ammonium, nitrate salts or urea. Strain produces nitrile hydratase with specific activity 200 U/mg cells and total activity 360-1368 U/ml cultural fluid. Invention description has data concerning preparing strain R. rhodochrous M33, its properties and examples of its use for aliphatic and aromatic nitriles preparing. EFFECT: new strain indicated above. 3 tbl
