FIELD: hydraulic engineering. SUBSTANCE: real hummocked ice taken bottom is used as a sample. Hummock piece that do not touch upon sea bed is revealed. Vertical weakened cross section is formed by drilling a number of holes through all hummock height within bounds of this piece. Area of this cross section and hummock volume selected by this cross section is determined. Natural change of sea level is used to form external loading force. Loading force is determined as weight difference between hummock portion to be split off provided that it is drifted, and the same volume in steady condition with sea level taken at time moment when the hummock is taken the bottom. EFFECT: increased accuracy in determination of integral strength of hummocks, ice loads on iceproof constructions to develop continental shelf of north seas; ice load is the governing factor for hydraulic engineering in north sea shelf, and refining may give economic effect of about 20 - 30 % of construction cost. 3 dwg
