FIELD: biochemistry. SUBSTANCE: method involves the hydrolysis of cornea with activated papain at pH 6.0-6.5 at 60-65 C after addition of 50-55 ml 2.5% papain solution per 1 kg crude tissue weight for 4 hr. Then hydrolysate is boiled for 10-15 min, trichloroacetic acid is added to final concentration 5%, precipitate is separated and supernatant is dialyzed against the mixture of 1N sodium chloride and alcohol at the ratio 7:3, saturated sodium chloride and distilled water. Prepared preparation shows expressed stimulating action on cornea reparation and can be used in ophthalmology. EFFECT: increased yield (95%), decreased time for preparing (3-4 days). 3 tbl
