FIELD: measurement technology. SUBSTANCE: part is being rotated and axis of measurements is continuously oriented by the normal to outer surface of pipe, deviation of center of profile of outer surface from center of rotation of section and deviation of thickness of wall from average magnitude are measured, magnitudes thus obtained are subtracted and radial run-out of inner surface is judged from difference between maximum and minimum magnitudes of the subtraction result; variation in wall thickness is judged from difference between maximum and minimum magnitudes of deviation from wall thickness. Device for realization of this method has two measuring channels, subtraction unit and recording pointer-type instrument. Wall thickness deviation measuring channel consists of piezoelectric converter, generator, synchronizer, reflected signal amplifier, comparator, measuring pulse shaper, time gate, compensating pulse shaper, measuring pulse scale converter, compensating pulse scale converter and integrator-amplifier. Mounted in housing of measuring unit are: hinge bearing, sleeve and ultrasonic and inductive converters which are linked with it and are turnable in two planes. During measurement, measuring unit of device is brought into engagement with outer surface of pipe and prism provides for continuous orientation of axes of instrument converters by the normal to outer surface of pipe.
