FIELD: nondestructive testing. SUBSTANCE: device is designed for checking the thickness of wall and plating layer of tubes and rods. 2n measuring and 2n compensation two-winding superposed eddy-current converters engaged with article under test and with compensation specimen are positioned uniformly over article perimeter. Converters of every pair are aligned. Second windings of every type of converters are interconnected in series. Outputs of second windings and first windings of two pairs of measuring converters which axes are mutually perpendicular are connected to three channels of signal processing. Signals from outputs of first channel and first adder, which inputs are connected to outputs of second and third channels, are proportional to average value of thickness and to maximum difference in thickness in cross-section of article under test. Interaction of these signals with the rest of device members makes it possible to obtain information on difference in thickness, on average, maximum and minimum thickness in article cross-section over its entire length with due regard for local reduction of thickness. EFFECT: more effective checking. 5 cl, 4 dwg
