METHOD FOR UNINTERRUPTED PRODUCTION OF IMPACT-RESISTANT COPOLYMER Russian patent published in 1996 - IPC

FIELD: production of vinyl aromatic copolymers. SUBSTANCE: method is carried out by polymerization of vinyl aromatic monomer in the presence of rubber, initiator and organic solvent. The process takes place in tubular reactors. Polybutadiene or ethylene-propylene-diene rubber (its quantity being 2-15 mass parts per 100 mass parts of monomer) is used as mentioned above rubber. Monomer together with said rubber in solvent (its quantity being not more 20 % of summary mass of monomer and rubber) are preliminary mixed at temperature being less 100 C. This process is carried out in vertical reactor having three temperature zones, temperature in said zones are 105-115 C, 115-130 C and 125-140 C respectively. Mixture being prepared in said reactor is mixed with initiator and is fed into the reactor. Reaction mixture is allowed to stand in said reactor within time being half-value period of initiator. The process is followed by feeding of reaction mixture in two reactor being consequently connected. The process is carried out to 70 % conversion of monomer.
