FIELD: metallurgy, namely removal of welding slag from a hearth of a heating pit. SUBSTANCE: method comprises steps of introducing onto a slag a first dose of an exothermic mixture, whose flowrate consists (0.25-0.33) of its total flowrate; in 5-10 minutes introducing a next dose (being determined as the first one) or a remaining part of the exothermic mixture onto another part of the hearth. A total flowrate of the exothermic mixture consists (0.003-0.005) kg/kg of the welding slag to be removed. Temperature of the heating pit at the above mentioned steps is equal to (1350-1400) C. EFFECT: lowered total consumption of the exothermic mixture.
