FIELD: metallurgy. SUBSTANCE: bottom electrode has metal bar one of whose ends is in contact with molten metal bath and other protrudes beyond furnace bottom, bushing cooled with water and made of material that functions as excellent heat and electricity conductor, checker made of heat and electricity conducting material and mounted on end of bar protruding beyond furnace bottom that contacts water-cooled bushing. The latter is installed concentrically about metal bar portion protruding beyond furnace bottom with annular clearance provided between bar and checker. Bar is embraced by circular part made of heavy metal of low melting point, such as lead. Heavy metal is fed in molten state to annular clearance; circular part may be placed inside annular clearance. Circular part may be also mounted on top part of bushing. EFFECT: improved design. 4 cl, 2 dwg
