FIELD: conversion of electric energy into kinetic energy of launched solid body, including electromagnetic acceleration of solid bodies in railguns. SUBSTANCE: electromagnetic solid-body rail accelerator has power case 1 with parallel electrodes 2, 3 arranged along its longitudinal axis that form external pair of electrodes shorted out in exit section of railgun. Placed in parallel to them are electrodes 4, 5 that form internal pair of electrodes shorted out by movable armature 7. All the electrodes are separated by insulating gaskets 8, 9. Electrodes 2, 3 in entrance part of railgun are connected to power system 10 through switch 11. Input terminal of electrode 1 and output terminal of electrode 5 are connected through switch 14 to power system 12 and remaining terminals of these electrodes, to power system 13 through switch 15. Input and output terminals of electrodes 5, 4 of internal pair and input terminal of electrodes 2, 3 of external pair placed on one side of railgun longitudinal axis should be connected to like-polarity poles of respective power systems 12, 13, 10. Power systems 12 and 13 should have similar electrical characteristics. This design provides for summing magnetic fields of circuits behind armature 7 and their subtraction in front of armature, and also summing of currents flowing through armature 7.
