FIELD: chemical engineering. SUBSTANCE: surface of molten ferrous oxide bed is blown with oxygen-containing gas at 760-300 mm Hg pressure, and reduction products formed are pumped off. Obtained molten magnetic ferric oxide is subjected to evacuation to a pressure not lower than 100 mm Hg, while temperature of melt is 2200-1600 C, preferably 1700-1900 C. Melts in the both stages are continuously turbulized. Plant for conducting reduction and thermal decomposition processes consists of two heated lined apparatuses incorporating distributing pipes with nozzles attached askew to them from below, the nozzles being connected through a collector with feeding pipeline provided with valves for successively feeding oxygen-containing gas. Nipples for discharging gaseous products are in pairs connected to common pipeline provided with valves for successive connection to heat- exchanger-evacuation source line. Apparatuses are also provided with turbulization means. Invention may find use in purification of off-gases, production of reduction gas, or energy carrier and oxygen. EFFECT: enhanced efficiency of process. 4 cl, 1 dwg
