FIELD: chemistry.
SUBSTANCE: invention relates to chemical engineering, namely to a method and apparatus for treating oxygen-containing gases, in particular water steam and/or carbon dioxide. Method comprises contacting molten ferrous oxide disposed in the form of a layer having a thickness of 100–300 mm, with the source gases supplied thereto from above, and thermal decomposition of the formed molten magnetic iron oxide at a melt temperature of 1,600–2,200 °C. In this case, both stages are carried out alternately and with continuous turbulization of the melts, and each step is carried out for 1 to 6 minutes. Installation contains two reactionary lined apparatus of square or rectangular shape, equipped with heating sources and devices for turbulization of melts, in which the contacting and decomposing stages are alternately carried out, while in each apparatus are installed distribution pipes with nozzles, connected through manifolds with a supply pipeline, having valves, as well as nipples and fittings for diverting gaseous reaction products.
EFFECT: invention provides an increase in productivity and efficiency.
