FIELD: gas purification. SUBSTANCE: gaseous hydrogen sulfide separately or mixed with other gases is passed through contact mass bed containing cuprous sulfide at 200-400 C and pressure 1-5 atm. During this operation, cupric sulfide is formed in contact mass accompanied with hydrogen liberation. Contact mass is then heated to 450-600 C under vacuum not lower than 100 mm Hg or blown through with inert gas, for instance, with nitrogen at the same temperature and pressure approaching atmospheric. Contacting and catalyst regeneration stages are carried out in turn in the same reaction space. EFFECT: intensified hydrogen sulfide decomposition procedure.
