FIELD: tobacco industry. SUBSTANCE: method involves regulating temperature and volatile substance content of tobacco; providing contact of tobacco with gaseous carbon dioxide. Impregnation process is conducted in accordance with thermodynamic line. It allows quantity of gaseous carbon dioxide condensed on tobacco to be regulated. In the process of releasing excessive pressure, liquid carbon dioxide is evaporated to facilitate uniform cooling of tobacco layer. Upon impregnation, tobacco may be subjected to swelling or holding under temperature, which is below temperature set after release of excessive pressure, in dry atmosphere with following swelling. EFFECT: increased efficiency, simplified method and improved quality of tobacco. 22 cl, 13 dwg, 3 tbl
