FIELD: ferrous metallurgy, steel heating in open-heath furnaces. SUBSTANCE: aim is to increase heat process characteristics due to avoiding of pig-iron usage, decreasing of heat process duration and to increase carbon assimilation. Method provides for layer by layer loading of metal charge, slag forming materials, portion by portion loading of carburizer, heating and charge smelting. Mixtures of energy active and inert carbon-bearing materials (lump type - of 150 mm size and dust-shaped) are used. Dust-shaped fraction consumption is 30 - 50 % of total amount of carburizer. Consumption of energy active carbon dust in first portion is 30 - 50 % of total amount of dust-shaped carburizer in the portion with decrease in every next portion by 50 - 70 5 of previous one. EFFECT: increased heat process characteristics, decreased heat process duration, increased carbon assimilation. 2 tbl
