FIELD: weapons. SUBSTANCE: differentiation of live and blank sporting cartridges is accomplished by reference to used polyethylene cartridge cases. To this end, traces of the shot shell are revealed on the inner surface of the cartridge case, and the polyethylene tubes of cartridge cases are additionally separated from the metal heads, cut along the longitudinal axis and straightened in the plane, which is drawn into three equal parts, and microscoped; if laminations of soot in the lower part of the plane surface relative to the cartridge case base, pits of various sizes caused by thermal effect of burning powder pieces in the middle part of the plane surface, contact spots of shots passing into dynamic traces in the upper part of the plane surface are revealed, live sporting cartridge cases are determined; if black particles of decomposition products as a result of ignition of the primer cap uniformly distributed over the entire plane surface are revealed, blank cartridge cases are determined. EFFECT: enhanced accuracy.
